"In 2019, I suffered an injury to my left leg just before Carnival. I was put on 2 weeks medical leave, missing Carnival and had to sell my costume. I was devasted. After being on rest for two weeks, I returned to work, wearing my regular safety boots. After the first day, the pain returned so severely that my doctor sent me for an MRI and referred me to physical therapy. After three sessions, I had no real improvement. I also now noticed a visible bump on the lower leg in the area of pain. It subsided a bit after some time, but I noticed that a lingering pain remained after running. There was pain walking up and down stairs and I had to use my hands to lift my left leg while exiting my vehicle. I tried various over-the-counter and prescription painkillers, as well as massages, but they only provided temporary relief.
By my 40th birthday in 2023, I stopped running altogether and resigned myself to the idea that the leg pain was chronic and something I would have to live with for the rest of my life. But, in February 2024, I decided to give it one more try, after a cousin recommended Rise Physical Therapy. He had seen great results and regained full mobility of his shoulders. I made an appointment and was very skeptical, but remained hopeful.
From the initial evaluation, I knew this experience was going to be different. Dr. Gomez was very professional and personable at the same time. She listened intently to me and responded accordingly. The subsequent physical therapy sessions were very well planned and organized, being tailored to my current level and comfort. There were virtual check-ins via WhatsApp. Our goal was to get me running again without any pain or discomfort.
By July 2024 (after 7 sessions), I had regained full mobility in my left leg, was finally able to climb stairs without discomfort, and could wear my safety boots at work without pain. I am also running again and have returned to my regular running pace. I would like to thank Rise Physical Therapy and Dr. Gomez, for being patient with me and accommodating my work schedule to ensure that I achieved my goals.
I highly recommend her services."
